Physical Demand Job Analysis

Depending on the purpose of a physical demand job analysis (PDJA), the analyst measures various components of work activity, including essential functions, weights and forces, positional tolerances, tools/machines used to perform work, work environment factors, education/skills, psychological factors and cognitive factors of the job. Employers utilize the PDJA in several ways:

Objective Criteria for Hiring
The PDJA is used to maintain current and accurate job descriptions. Especially useful for hiring and termination, the PDJA will assist the employer in determining if an accommodation is available should a qualified individual with a disability request an accommodation. The PDJA report includes information such as education, experience, and required skills that Human Resource personnel use when hiring new workers.
Prevailing Factor Determination
The PDJA provides the physician with job specific information to determine if the claimed injury was caused by job demands.
Return to Work FCE
Rehabilitation specialists performing Functional Capacity Evaluations utilize the PDJA to clearly and accurately determine a worker‛s ability to perform the essential job functions. When return to work is indicated, the PDJA provides the physician with job specific information which allows accurate and effective return to work decisions or recommendations.
Ergonomic Risk Analysis
The PDJA identifies existing or potential risk factors. This information can be specific to a job or to a particular individual on the job.
Post Offer Employment Testing
The PDJA serves as the foundation and legal basis for post offer employment test development.

EPIC provides PDJA services on a competitive basis, with an emphasis on high quality. With more than three decades of experience, EPIC will guide the employer to implement PDJA-related applications to meet the employer‛s needs.
