Taking an evidence-based approach to rehabilitation practice and outcomes is crucial to the presentation of opinions that are acceptable in litigation. A strong background in research coupled with decades of hands-on experience with clients and their families allows EpicRehab to both consult on forensic matters and provide opinions that are acceptable in courts of law throughout the United States.
We offer services in the following areas:
- Assessment
- Forensic consulting & expert testimony
Assessment
EpicRehab uses a battery of standardized tests that is customized to the evaluation needs of the plaintiff, with a library of more than 100 standardized tests.
Depending on the case, a functional capacity evaluation, work capacity evaluation, or occupational rehabilitation evaluation can be conducted in the plaintiff’s home, a professional office, or in a rehabilitation clinic. The location of the evaluation is determined by the need for space and specialized equipment. EpicRehab has a clinic that is fully equipped for assessment in Chesterfield, Missouri, approximately 35 minutes from Lambert International Airport and near several good hotels.
We also provide assessment services throughout the United States, either directly or through relationships with many high-quality and well-qualified rehabilitation professionals who can also assist in assessment as the need arises.
Forensic Consulting & Expert Testimony
With more than 40 years of experience in rehabilitation, often in university settings, there are not many types of impairment or disability with which we are not familiar. Dr. Matheson has been involved in inventing services such as work hardening and work capacity evaluation. He has also participated in the development of many of the standards and practices that are used in functional capacity evaluation and industrial rehabilitation throughout the world.
As a member of the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) committees to develop the formal accreditation standards for industrial rehabilitation programs, and as a CARF trustee for five years, Dr. Matheson has intimate knowledge of rehabilitation standards of care. He has also provided post-professional training in assessment and industrial rehabilitation practice to several thousand occupational therapists, physical therapists, physicians, psychologists, rehabilitation counselors, and vocational evaluators.
